Media Release: Support for 6 Years of Gonski - May 2014
Government Primary Principals reinforce support for six years of Gonski
The Australian Government Primary Principals Association (AGPPA) urgently implores state education leaders to support implementation of six years of Gonski reform.
“State education leaders must strongly demonstrate their commitment to provide fair and equitable education for Australian students by ensuring Gonski is enacted in its full, six year capacity,” said AGPPA President Gabrielle Leigh.
Gabrielle Leigh said reports that discussions of Gonski had been taken off the COAG agenda combined with plans to drop the last two years of funding reveal a disconcerting federal Government steadfastness to dismiss the funding model.
“Dropping the two most critical final years of Gonski funding shows a grave indifference towards the inexcusable links between low levels of achievement and educational disadvantage currently residing in Australia’s schooling system.”
“Schools, students and teachers unanimously stand to benefit from the additional resources provided by Gonski,” said Gabrielle Leigh.
AGPPA, representing over 5400 government schools across all States and Territories, joins a mounting number of advocacy and education bodies reinforcing the vital need for a clear vision for Australia’s education system.
“As Government commitment to Gonski continues to wane, state education leaders must intensify their campaign to ensure the fairer funding model is realised,” said Gabrielle Leigh.
